Sometimes I think “holy ground” is being able to laugh at the things that otherwise might make you cry! I had one of those days today and sent the synopsis to my family. While writing it, I laughed. And I thought you might enjoy a moment to laugh as well.
Oh. My. Goodness. Some days I feel too old for this (I’m taking care of my 2- and 3-year-old granddaughters today)! LOL Sweets wanted a protein milkshake so I let her have one because she didn’t eat lunch very well. She took it to the playroom. (Grammy error #427) She came out later without it, and I asked her to go get it.(I had made her promise to drink it all since they are a little pricey!) She said it was empty so she brought it to me, and I told her to take it to the trash. Then she made some random comment about wanting to make sure there was enough in the blue cup for me. (Alarm now going off in my head) I went into the playroom and discovered that the milkshake had been poured into a blue cup. And the play kitchen sink. And the bowl. And the burners. Etc…you get the picture. The more I tried to wipe up with a paper towel, the more milk appeared out of thin air. So I took the little kitchen to the kitchen sink where milk continued to materialize. I got the kitchen into the sink where it didn’t really fit and tried to rinse it off. Well I ended up spraying the refrigerator with water. Now I have milk and water gushing out of the kitchen that is propped on the edge of the sink.
Since rinsing the kitchen in the kitchen sink, the burners are now gurgling their pretend boiling noise. And they won’t stop. The fear of losing my mind was greater than the fear of electrocuting myself, so I found a screwdriver to disassemble the stove unit. After removing and losing the tiny screw, I couldn’t get the back off the battery case. I pried at every corner, but nothing worked. I walked it to the laundry room to hide it there out of hearing distance. It was then that I noticed the little clip that released the back to the battery section. I removed the milkshake-soaked batteries and threw them in the trash.
Then I asked Sweets to rinse some of the dishes in the bathroom sink. (Grammy mistake #836) I am continuing to try to stop the flow of protein shake onto my kitchen floor. Now the girls seem to be having too much fun in the bathroom. I went down the hall to find the bathroom door locked. Once I got in I discovered that water was everywhere in the bathroom, and they tried to use most of the roll of toilet paper to wipe it up. Water is dripping off the counter onto the floor, and the mirror is splashed nearly to the ceiling.
But, hey, the dishes were rinsed.
Next I packed the kitchen to the shower in my bathroom and commenced the rinsing of everything but the kitchen sink. I walked back out of my bathroom, noting drops of watered down milkshake all the way back to the kitchen. Uh oh…the playroom doors are closed. They were helping Grammy clean up the mess by spraying the cleaner I left on the playroom floor. After announcing time for naps, I picked up Paddy Cakes and discovered a blowout of massive proportions…..all are in bed now and Grammy is going to rest.
Later I will move the kitchen back to the playroom. And mop the floor. And clean the mirror. And wipe down the refrigerator. But for now, I will enjoy a moment to laugh at myself and the comedy of errors today. Cleaning will wait. Making memories with my grands will not.
